Notary Public
A notary public is an individual who can administer oaths and affirmations, take affidavits and statutory declarations, provide exemplifications and notarial copies, and witness and authenticate the execution of certain classes of documents. Any such act is known as a notarization.
Notaries are licensed by a government authority, such as a court or lieutenant governor, or by a regulating body often known as a society or faculty of notaries public.
For the purposes of authentication, most countries require commercial, personal, and educational documents which originate from or are signed in another country to be notarized before they can be used, officially recorded, or before they can have any legal effect.
An oath is a solemn declaration that a statement is true. An oath must be taken before a Commissioner of Oaths or a Notary Public for it to be valid. Oaths are often used to confirm a written statement, known as an affidavit, for use in court, estate or land title transactions.
