Does your document need to be authenticated?

Authentication requirements differ from country to country. Before sending your documents to be authenticated, please search our website, then contact us to obtain updated legalization, authentication, attestation and apostille information for your Canadian document attestation at the embassy of South Korea in Ottawa Canada.

If you require your documents to be authenticated, you should ensure to have the documents authenticated prior to arranging for travel outside of Canada. Please note that Canadian missions or embassies abroad are often not able to authenticate Canadian documents.

General requirements to legalize documents in embassy of South Korea in Ottawa Canada:

1. The document for legalization, authentication and attestation must be an original or certified true copy of the original by a notary public or a commissioner of oath; however many embassies demand the stamp of the Lawyer or the Notary Public to be on the document itself and not on the cover letter of the Lawyer or of the Notary.
2. It must be stamped by the Global Affairs Canada, Authentication of Documents section in Ottawa (Ex Department of Foreign Affairs, International trade and development Canada DFATD).
3. The consular section reserves the exclusive right to grant or reject the legalization of any document, to ask for additional documentations, requirements, changing the processing time and fees without prior notice. “Ottawa-legalization” authentication agent will notify you if any change accrues during your process.

Authentication of Document for Use in Spain

Canada is not a ‘party’ to the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 abolishing the requirement of legalization for foreign public documents. Therefore, all Canadian documents must be authenticated through diplomatic channels in order to be valid in Spain.

WARNING:

Only original documents or true certified copies made by the same authority that issued the original document will be authenticated. True certified copies merely made by authorities other than those competent to issue the document shall NOT be valid in Spain, even if they are authenticated by Global Affairs Canada (the Foreign Affairs Ministry of Canada).

PROCEDURE FOR THE AUTHENTICATION OF DOCUMENTS

For the following documents:

1. Transcripts and diplomas issued by Canadian academic institutions
2. Birth, death, marriage and divorce certificates issued by the registry offices of Ontario and Quebec for events that took place
3. Criminal record checks (only from the RCMP)

You are required to take these steps:

1. It must be stamped by the Global Affairs Canada, Authentication of Documents section in Ottawa (Ex Department of Foreign Affairs, International trade and development Canada DFATD).
2. A Canadian official from the Department of Foreign Affairs will stamp and sign the document in order to authenticate the signature of the competent authority who issued the certificate or diploma.
4. The Spanish official in charge of the Consular Section at the Embassy of Spain in Ottawa will authenticate the signature of the Canadian Official from the Department of Foreign Affairs only when the corresponding consular fee $ CAN 10.70 (2016 fee), per document
