Does your document need to be authenticated?

Authentication requirements differ from country to country. Authentication / Notarization of Documents at Singapore Consulate Canada

Documents issued in one country to be used in another country must be authenticated (also known as legalized) before they can be recognized as valid in the foreign country.

As Singapore is not a party to the Hague Legalization Convention, you will need to obtain a series of certifications known as the “chain authentication method”, ending with the seal of the Singapore Embassy or Consulate in Canada.

General requirements to legalize documents in embassy of Consulate of Singapore in Toronto Canada:

1. The document for legalization, authentication and attestation must be an original or certified true copy of the original by a notary public or a commissioner of oath; however many embassies demand the stamp of the Lawyer or the Notary Public to be on the document itself and not on the cover letter of the Lawyer or of the Notary.
2. It must be stamped by the Global Affairs Canada, Authentication of Documents section in Ottawa (Ex Department of Foreign Affairs, International trade and development Canada DFATD).
3. Processing Fee for authentication of document at Singapore Consulate in Canada is CAD$9.00 per notarial certificate and seal on certificate of origin. All fees are subject to change without notice.
4. The consular section reserves the exclusive right to grant or reject the legalization of any document, to ask for additional documentations, requirements, changing the processing time and fees without prior notice. “Ottawa-legalization” authentication agent will notify you if any change accrues during your process.

PROCEDURES FOR AUTHENTICATION / NOTARISATION OF LEGAL DOCUMENTS TO BE USED IN SINGAPORE

1. 3. After obtaining the signature of the Canadian authorities (Global Affairs Canada), you may now forward the document(s) to the Singapore Consulate-General In Canada for certification. Please provide original set of documents plus one copy of the complete set. The copy of the documents is for consulate of Singapore in Canada retention and file.
4. Processing time at the consulate is approximately 2 days from the date of receipt. Please allow additional time for possible delays in postal delivery.
5. Thereafter, you may transmit the authenticated document(s) by Singapore consulate in Canada directly to Singapore for use.
