Does your document need to be authenticated?

Authentication requirements differ from country to country. Before sending your documents to be authenticated, please search our website, then contact us to obtain updated legalization, authentication, attestation and apostille information for your Canadian document attestation at the embassy of Ireland in Ottawa Canada.

If you require your documents to be authenticated, you should ensure to have the documents authenticated prior to arranging for travel outside of Canada. Please note that Canadian missions or embassies abroad are often not able to authenticate Canadian documents.

How to apply in Canada

Legalization of Canadian documents:

A Canadian public document may need to be legalized if it is for use in Ireland. The document must:

1. Be authenticated by Global Affairs Canada (the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development in Canada), and then
2. Be authenticated by the Embassy of Ireland, Ottawa.

Legalization of Irish documents:

The Embassy of Ireland in Ottawa can certify a copy of your Irish passport if you submit the original.

The Embassy can certify a copy of an original Irish public document if you submit the original.

The Embassy cannot process Apostille or Legalization applications for Irish public documents. These must be processed by Consular Division in Ireland.

Embassy of Ireland’s fee for legalization of Canadian documents or certified copies of Irish documents, payable by: $55 CAD per document
